Located in Haltwhistle, Northumberland, close by the Roman built Hadrian’s Wall. The 1900-built Mechanics Institute was granted a Cinematograph Licence in 1912. It was also used for other events including dances and all seats were on a single level floor.
In 1935 it became the Westgate Cinema. It was closed on 11th December 1960 with the 1948 made film “The Man From Colorado” starring William Holden and Glenn Ford.
Today the building houses the Public Library.
