The Desmond Cinema opened on 5th December 1945 and the first film to be screened was “The Climax”. Visiting players to have appeared there included Maureen Potter and Jimmy O’Dea. It served as the Parish church during renovations of St. Mary’s in 1967. According to the local heritage group it closed in the 1970’s and was later demolished. One source states it was used as a tyre shop after closure. The site is now occupied by a fire station.
