Filmtheater 't Hoogt

The Filmtheater ’t Hoogt was opened in 1972 as an art house, latterly subsidised by local government. Sadly it closed on Sunday 30th December 2018 after the buildings' owner decided to convert it into apartments. Unable to find suitable premises for the time being, from 2019, under the direction of Rianne Brouwers, films are being shownat various locations around the city as ’t Hoogt on Tour.

https://slachtstraat.nl/ Due to plans to convert the buildings into residences, the collaboration between the Utrecht Monument Fund (UMF) ended in 2018, and Filmtheater ’t Hoogt had to close its doors. Ultimately, these plans did not go ahead, and in early 2020, the owner, the UMF, and Jos Stelling signed an agreement to re-establish a film theater there.

With great love for the city and film, the renewed current cultural film center, Slachtstraat Filmtheater, was thus created. It features three auditoriums with a total of 200 seats, equipped with the latest technology and comfort. Furthermore, the complex has been made sustainable and is accessible to people with disabilities, partly thanks to an elevator. The atmosphere of the Grand Café, the Conservatory, the Back Room, and the restaurant evokes Paris at the end of the 19th century.
