Dundalk Avenue runs southeast out of Baltimore City and into Baltimore County. Along the route, you come across the Carlton Theatre, the Colgate Theatre, the Abbey Lane Theatre, the Strand on Shipping Place and finally the Anthony Turner in Turner’s Station. None of these theatres show movies today, but the Carlton Theatre continued to show movies into 1988, although by then they were adult films.
The Carlton opened in late 1948 and survived for many years showing X-rated films. The building still stands and is in great condition, and was used as offices. By 2025 it was used as a funeral home.

The Carlton was a twin during its final years. During the early-1980s, first-run films were screened in one auditorium and adult films were screened in the other auditorium. Its last first-run film screened at the Carlton is “The Natural” on July 7, 1984, and the Carlton became an full-time adult-house right afterward.
Currently a funeral home.
