Located at 16 Wauchope Avenue in the Craigmillar district to the southeast of Edinburgh. The Rio Cinema was opened on 6th February 1936 and was designed in an Art Deco style by architectural firm Linton & Grierson. It was independently operated and was equipped with a FIE sound system.
It was destroyed by a fire in October 1946. It was replaced by the County Cinema on the same site, which opened on 29th August 1950.
