Located adjacent to the Kings Theatre (later Regal Cinema, ABC etc which has its own page on Cinema Treasures), the Empire Picture House was opened in 1912. Designed in a Neo-Classical style to the plans of architectural firm Duff & Cairns. In 1930 it was equipped with a British Acoustic(BA) sound system which in later years had been replaced by a Western Electric(WE) sound system. By 1934 it was operated by the A.B. King circuit.

The Empire Picture House was closed in 1965 and converted into a bingo club, but later that year it was destroyed by a fire. The remains have since been demolished and by 2017 O'Shannons Irish Pub operates on the site.
