Located in Milford, County Donegal. The building was first used as a dance-hall in 1931, although it looks more like a barn. In 1938 it was sold to A.C. Cinemas who owned the Scala Cinema in Letterkenny. It opened on 9th October 1939 with “Sons o' Guns” starring Joe E. Brown & Joan Blondell. It had 285 seats and a Philips sound system fitted. The cinema was later sold to William O’Hanlon and then Willie McElwee in the 1950’s who was still at the helm in the 1970’s. La Scala Cinema surprisingly made it as far as 1994 before closing its doors.
It was reported on a blogsite that the cinema reopened for one night in November 2012 for the Donegal premiere of “The Twilight Saga Part II: Breaking Dawn”, which had been shot in the County, but this turned out to be “fake news”. The property still stands but its use is unclear.
