Located in Malahide, County Dublin. The Gem Cinema was run by the O’Brien’s who were travelling showpeople and originally pitched their cinema on The Green. The cinema was set up in a yard close by during the 1940’s. It had tip-up seats in the small balcony and benches in the pit and accommodated about 300 people. O’Brien married the owner of a chip van which was based on The Green. The cinema disappears from the papers in the mid-1950’s.
