The Villa Park Cinema opened as a single-screener on August 13, 1971 with Steve McQueen in “Le Mans”. It was twinned in 1985 and became a quad in 1990. It was closed in late-February 1995.

A shame. This theatre gets put out of business thanks to Northgate and then Northgate goes under due their own miscalculation of trying to go first-run. Now we have neither. :(

This was a great inexpensive place to catch a lot of flicks in the 80’s. I can’t begin to list all the movies I saw here (both as a single screen and as a twin). The theater had a good Dolby sound system which was rare to find at the time in 2nd run theaters. Some memorable movies I saw here: Officer and a Gentleman, Risky Business, Gremlins, Thief.

I remember that the Villa Park was once a single screen, later was split into two and later added two more screens in the rear of the theater.
