This cinema was built sometime in the 1970’s as an independently owned theater. It opened on August 13, 1971 with Steve McQueen in “Le Mans”. It was a single screen and stayed that way until 1985 when it was twinned. In 1990 it became a quad.
It was a second-run venue for $1.50, Sadly, this cinema closed in early-1995 due to the Northgate Cinema that had been taking business away since 1993, the year the Northgate opened just down the street.
For a while, the old cinema space was an antique mall but that was closed and now it’s just an empty space.

I remember that the Villa Park was once a single screen, later was split into two and later added two more screens in the rear of the theater.
This was a great inexpensive place to catch a lot of flicks in the 80’s. I can’t begin to list all the movies I saw here (both as a single screen and as a twin). The theater had a good Dolby sound system which was rare to find at the time in 2nd run theaters. Some memorable movies I saw here: Officer and a Gentleman, Risky Business, Gremlins, Thief.
A shame. This theatre gets put out of business thanks to Northgate and then Northgate goes under due their own miscalculation of trying to go first-run. Now we have neither. :(
is the northgate still standing? …. who is the nearest theatre that villa park has?
