The Leinster Cinema was opened by Dublin’s Lord Mayor Alfie Byrne on 3rd November 1936 screening “The Life of Bernadette”, just two days before the nearby Rialto Cinema opened. It was designed by Robinson & Keefe, had 1,300 seats and was equipped with an RCA sound system. It closed on 18th May 1968 and was turned into an ice rink. When this closed the building lay derelict for a number of years, suffering a fire, and was demolished in October 2004 for an apartment block.
