The Southgate Theatre opened on January 29, 1971 with Walt Disney’s “The Aristocats”. It was a single screen theatre. It became a twin screen on June 16, 1978 and 4 screens on July 22, 1983 and closed in 1998 when the Chambersburg Mall cinemas expanded. Owners were William Goldman Theatres, Budco, Manos, and Carmike Cinemas.
