Sunset Theatre

The Riverdale Theatre Sunset Theatre was located upstairs on the second floor of a bowling alley. It was opened from 1928 and closed in 1932. By December 1937 it was operated by Willam & Cleo Allen as the Sunset Theatre. The bowling alley had become a furniture store by the time the Sunset Theatre had closed by 1955.

The building still exists in 2018 in use as a church (possibly on the 1st floor?).

All I’ve been able to discover about the Sunset Theatre is that it was open by December of 1937 (it was mentioned in the December 18 issue of The Fresno Bee) and that around the end of 1949 or beginning of 1950 it was taken over buy a guy named Giles “Tiny” Turner, who operated it at least through 1952.
