This is the first of the four cinema complexes to open in the West Edmonton Mall. It opened in Phase 1 by Odeon Theatres (Canada) Ltd. on September 25, 1981. It was taken over by Cineplex Odeon and renamed Cinema 6 on January 10th, 1986 to avoid confusion with the newer Cineplex Odeon cinema in Phase 3 (separate Cinema Treasures listing) and closed in 2005.

Cineplex-Odeon Cinemas 6 was the first theater to open in West Edmonton Mall on September 25, 1981. It is situated at the end of the first level of West Edmonton Mall, beyond the gourmet food court area of Phase I. It was originally a first-run theater, but transitioned to a second-run/dollar theater on December 13, 1991 (making the tickets priced at $1.00 each) due to competition from the other two first-run theaters that opened shortly after. The theater’s box office can only be reached on the first level. To access the remaining areas of the theater, such as the concessions, arcade games, bathrooms, and all six auditoriums located in the basement level, patrons must proceed behind the box office and use either the long stairs, escalator, or elevator.
