Hammond Twin Outdoor Theatre

At the time, the Hammond Twin Outdoor was a family and neighborhood event on weekends. Tucked behind K-Mart on US41 and 80/94 and just over the Little Calumet River from Highlands Wicker Park Manor (Frog Hollow.) That place was home to many great friend and family memories. I actually signed up here because I wanted to thank the owners and employees that made it such a pleasure to go there should they ever run across this site! We now visit the Outdoor in Valparaiso Indiana which has the same enthusiasm in treating their customers to a wonderful time… and a pretty good pizza as well!

I saw a triple feature of “The Empire Strikes Back,” “Flash Gordon” and “My Bodyguard” here. I remember that Bo Derek’s “Tarzan” was on the other screen so needless to say we missed some of “Empire” to see the “good” scenes.

Actually the Kmart, Burger King and a Howard Johnson’s were already there if I remember right. I think the old Builders Square and Warehouse Club, which are behind kmart was the Hammond Twin’s location.

Now there is really nothing where the Drive-In use to be. It is virtually a wasteland. That part of Hammond in that same state, with K-mart and the Burger King that was there are now gone. I remember going there a few times when I was young, but forgot the movies I saw there. There is really no sign of the Drive-In movie theatre. The Builders Square & Buyer’s Club are long gone for many years now. The only things there now are a DMV, Military Recruiting office, and a Medical Supply place where Buyer’s Club was. It is pretty sad when they say Hammond is a beautiful city, but they might want to open their eyes! That land is going to waste just like the rest of the city! Sorry to complain, but it was once nice in the good old days!
