The Trail Drive-In opened on March 21, 1952 with Yvonne De Carlo in “Buccaneer’s Girl” & Leo Gorcey & The Bowrey Boys in “Hold That Baby”. It was operated by G.A. Mundy. It closed on September 2, 1984 with Harrison Ford in “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” & John Travolta in “Staying Alive”. The site is now a Texaco station, Rivermont School, and a Bank of Botetourt branch.

At some point in the 60’s the capacity was virtually doubled, comparing a 1960 aerial photo with one from 1968 shows the field being a lot bigger.
A significant part of the drive-in is still an open field, including where the screen once stood. However, it is all gone.
