Strand Theatre

The Palace Theatre launched in 1913 as one of the town’s two main movie theatres. In January of 1916, the theatre was renamed the Strand Theatre. The Strand Theatre followed the lead of its two main competitors - the Alabama Theatre and the Alcazar Theatre - by converting to sound on November 10, 1929.

The Strand Theatre closed on March 11, 1933 with Bob Steele in “The Fighting Champ”. The Strand Theatre merged with the Alcazar Theatre. The Suwannee Food Stores took over the Strand Theatre location in 1933 and moved out by 1935. The town had a short-lived New Strand Theatre in 1935 which only operated from April to November of 1935 likely in this location. Insurance issues over a fire there appears to end its run. The theatre became a Bible Studies location in 1936.
