News About This Theater
- Jan 30, 2012 — Owner of Woodridge, Naperville theaters shoots for ultimate experience
- Feb 5, 2009 — Nova 8 in Naperville closes
This eight-screen theater was opened in June 1992 for the Cineplex Odeon chain at the Westridge Court shopping center in Naperville, located at the intersection of Route 59 and Aurora Avenue. Following the bankruptcy of Loews Cineplex in 2001, the chain closed a number of theaters in the Chicagoland area, including the Westridge Court.
A year after it was closed, the multiplex was reopened by the Nova Cinemas chain, and renamed the Nova 8 Cinemas. It continued to show first-run films until closing for renovation in early-2009.
Now the sister theater to the Hollywood Boulevard Cinema in Woodridge (the former Woodgrove Festival Cinema), the Hollywood Palms Cinema opened September 24, 2009. Opened six years after the Hollywood Boulevard, both movie houses are operated by Ted Bulthaup as cinema and dining/drinking venues. Patrons sit at tables in high back leather chairs and are waited on by servers during the film. Each of the Palms' seven auditoriums has a different theme (for example; Chinese, Mayan, Egyptian and even Wizard of Oz!). Like its sister theatre, the Palms will also screen classic films in addition to first-run features, and host film festivals and guest appearances by Hollywood stars.

This place opened on June 19th 1992 with Batman Returns on six sreens. I have the ad on microfilm.
Is this theatre chain part of (or owned by) the Reynolds chain? Nova is on Reynolds’s website.
Rivest’s website says that this place is closed. Is that true?
It’s still open. Tomorrow they’re opening “Dragon Wars”, while they still have “3:10 to Yuma” & “Halloween” to name a few.
It should now be listed as “closed/renovating”. Per Nova’s website, it will re-open as a Hollywood Boulevard.
Sounds great. I’ll have to try it once they re-open.
If it opened in 1992, did it have the famous Cineplex-Odeon designs, such as the zig-zags?
I uploaded the grand opening ad from June 19th, 1992 in the photo section for this theatre.
Ted Bulthaup is no longer the owner of Hollywood Palms or Hollywood Boulevard; they are now owned and operated by separate companies, but both have kept the names, the dine-in theater model and the affinity for celebrating Classic Hollywood.
Unfortunately, this theater hasn’t had any events in several years. COVID played a part, however, they didn’t have any events for a year or so before it. It seems like they’re focused on showing current movies now.
