In October 1948 newly formed Tri-City Drive-In Corp. broke ground on a 70-acre site for a 1000-car drive-in theater costing $100,000 at 5th Avenue and Cline in Hammond (but near Gary). It was tentatively named Starlight.
This Actually Was Named The “Moonlite” Drive-In As Its Primary Name, With “Moonlight” Being Secondary.
The Moonlite Opened On June 3, 1949 With Jack Carson In “My Dream Is Yours” With No Extra Short Subjects, And Closed At The End Of The 1959 Season In Early October 1959, Yes In Connection For US 20-US 12 After The State Paid $400K.
This opened on June 3rd, 1949. Grand opening ad posted.
It does appear that the outline of part of the back fence and ramp remain from the drive-in.
