The Royal Casino and Opera House, opened in 1912 and in 1917 it became the Prince Theatre showing silent movies, watched on wooden benches.
USA Today notes in its heyday it was one of Bangkok’s most popular cinemas showing Hollywood movies but was converted to porn after the arrival of multiplexes. Then came videos followed by the Internet and the building fell into disrepair.
The theatre closed in 2008 and in 2018 it was reborn as Prince Theatre Heritage Stay, a 26-room boutique hotel with modern furnishings. Although Heritage Stay lists its business address on Charoen Krung Road, the original marquee frames the entrance on Si Wiang Road.
Not to forget its roots, each night movies are shown on the original screen in the lobby. Above the check-in desk is a rectangular marquee with changeable letters listing the current attraction and a vintage 35mm projector is on display in the lobby.
Films from all countries are included and in the fall of 2019 they held the French Movie Weekend. American films screened include “Birth of a Nation”, “The Gold Rush”, “The Best Years Of Our Lives”, “Rosemary’s Bab"’, and even Kirk Douglas in "The Big Sky” from 1952.

1966 photo added courtesy Sarawudh Nilayodhin. Building pictured is still standing on Charoen King Road & Si Lom Road, on the corner beneath the State Tower at 1055 Si Lom Road. Google street view will not transfer here, but if you look up the 1055 address, scroll right once there and you will see it on the corner. This is either the original theatre, or one not listed on CT. It is a block up at the end of Si Lom Road from the original photo in the Overview.
