Built in late-1928 by the local Citizens Committee, the Hazelbrook Boy Scouts Hall was designed for group meeting needs, with provisions for use as a part-time cinema. It was rented to exhibitor Reginald Thornton Golby during the 1930’s to form part of his circuit servicing smaller Blue Mountains townships. Screenings often used the same film print as he was showing in the nearby Lawson Mechanics Hall. First ‘Talkies’ screened here on 21st October 1933. The scouts moved premises many years ago, and the venue has had a variety of commercial/retailing function since. It still stands on the corner of Oaklands Road, near the new Hazelbrook shopping centre.

There is no evidence that the current 1st Hazelbrook Scout Hall at 70 Railway Parade has ever served as a 35mm commercial cinema. It was the original 1928 Scouts’ Hall located at 201 Great Western Highway which showed films as Golby’s Hazelbrook Talkies in the 1930s.
