Hazelbrook Talkies

Following fund raising efforts by the Hazelbrook Scouts Committee, a block of land was purchased for £60 in early 1928, on the western corner of the main highway and Oaklands Road. Tenders were invited by 12th October for the construction of a 24 x 60 foot weatherboard and iron hall suitable for scout needs and cinema use. With funds loaned by a local benefactor, a quote from local builder M. Noonan for £553 was accepted - including a stipulation that work be completed by Xmas. A dance was held there on 26th December, with the venue being officially proclaimed as a public hall on 18th January 1929. (March 2023 photo).
