Malvern’s only popular theatre in town was the Empress Theatre. The Empress Theatre opened its doors (during the birth of talkies) on May 21, 1930 with Joseph Wagstaff and Lola Lane in “Let’s Go Places” (a Fox Film) which ran on its opening day and the day afterwards. On May 9, 1940, the Empress Theatre is the only theatre in Mills County, Iowa to install air-conditioning. The Empress Theatre closed in the mid-1960’s.
