In August 1945, Paul Driessen applied to be allowed to built a cinema on the White Swan Inn at Scheidestrasse 21. He received a license and the necessary concession in October of that year, but was unable to open the movie house because the restaurant had meanwhile being confiscated by the forces of occupation and used as a dance bar for the members of the British Armed Forces. Finally in 1951, was Paul Driessen able to open the Kleefelder Lichtspiele. The restaurant was renovated by the Hannover architect A. Falke and the grand opening took place on 5th July 1951. The cinema operated until 1966, now a drug store is in the building.
