Opened on October 12, 1921 with Clara Bow in “Charge It”. The Ozark Theatre it was built in Spanish Mission revival style. One of the oldest remaining motion picture houses in the St. Louis area and is located in the Webster Groves district, 10 miles southwest of St. Louis. Until 1945 it had an outdoor “airdome” alongside for viewing films in warm weather. It was remodelled in 1968 when a generic ‘Pizza Hut’ style construction was added to the building, and it became the Webster Cinema which operated into the 1980’s.
Major renovation was completed in 2010 (see photos on the Official Related Website to the right of this page). The ‘Pizza Hut’ style addition has now been removed, revealing a fully restored building back to its original 1921 appearance.

I’m so excited they are renovating this theater. I spent many many happy hours there as a little kid in the fifties, when it was the OzÃ¥rk, and lucky me—within walking distance of my childhood home. Does anyone know the timeline on the preservation?

The architect was the firm of Kennerly & Stiegemeyer.
Looks like renovations are finished – it is now advertised as a 9,000 square foot sales/show space. The exterior looks great!
The Ozark Theater launched on October 12, 1921 with Clara Kimball Young in “Charge It.” In 1925, the venue was known as the Ozark Theater and Airdome with the large outside area used for screenings that avoided the ventilation-challenged hardtop theater. On June 9, 1930, the venue added sound to remain viable. The Airdome closed after the 1945 season returning to its Ozark Theater nameplate.
