In 1946, ‘Dick’ Simpson transformed the Mount Druit Hall into a picture theatre & named it the Vogue Theatre. In 1954, it screened Wednesday & Saturday. CinemaScope was added in 1955. In c1957, a new foyer erected on northern side of hall. He owned and operated it for 22 years, was then sold to new owners (1968). It was listed in Film Weekly under ‘country’ till 1969. In c1977, theatre received Federal Government subsidy, became known as the “Family Cinema” to screen only G rated films. Finally closed as cinema in May 1984 (after school holidays) with projectors relocated to Mt Druitt Historical Society. The hall is now administered by Blacktown City Council (bought by them in 1966) and is subject to a Council Conservation Order.
