The 1914 Sanborn shows ‘Movies’ being shown in the ground floor of an old storefront likely constructed between 1891 and 1897.

The structure was very basic, a two-story wood frame building with a brick façade. On the 1908 map, it was home to a books & stationery store. A photographer was located upstairs. This was likely a very basic conversion to capture the early craze, and by 1925 the space was once again a store.

At some later point it was replaced by the drab little Moose Lodge there today.

This might have been the house listed in the 1914-1915 American Motion Picture Directory as the Scottdale Theatre. The other two houses listed (Geyer’s Opera House and the Arcade Theatre) are accounted for.

Nessa: Strand was an aka for the Geyer Performing Arts Center, which was originally the Geyer Opera House.
