This is Clearwater’s first multi-screener theater, and was the first theater in Clearwater to be opened by AMC on August 20, 1972 as a quad (as the Clearwater IV or the Clearwater 4 including an alternate name known as the Clearwater Mall 4) in which AMC operated this theater throughout its history from start-to-end. With the theater being located in the first phase area of the Clearwater Mall which opened on August 14, 1972 (with the theater being opened 6 days later), the entire mall was still under construction until completion, and with the entire mall opening its doors on November 8, 1973. The theater opened with “Junior Bonnier” at Screen 1, a reissue of “The Graduate” at Screen 2, and Walt Disney’s “Napoleon and Samantha” shown at Screens 3 and 4.
Its operation as a quad lasted until 1984, when a 5th screen was added, and at that time it was renamed as the Clearwater 5. This continued for another 16 years until the theater closed its doors for the final time on October 15, 2000.
Along with the rest of the mall, it was demolished in May 2002 for an extended parking lot (where the theater is), to occupy for other places surrounding the former Clearwater Mall such as a Ross Dress For Less, a GameStop, Burlington Coat Factory, Panera Bread, The Vitamin Shoppe, PetSmart, Michaels, Ulta Beauty, Jared, Halloween City, Golf Galaxy, Smokey Bones, Jimmy John’s, Tires Plus, TD Bank, Wells Fargo, a MattressFirm, Pinellas Computers of Clearwater, Peltz Shoes, David’s Bridal, a Lowes, a Target (with a Starbucks), CVS Pharmacy, and a Costco.
