This 2,500-seat capacity Airdome was located on E. Walnut Street in Springfield, opening its doors on May 28, 1906 with a presentation of “A Hero Of The Hills”.
The theater itself was secured by the Harrison and Sutherland Stock Company managed by Mr. Lewis Sutherland, and the picturesque was operated by Mr. W. Dick Harrison of Springfield.
This airdome operated for a total of 9 years until ultimately closing its doors for the final time in September 1914. However, the airdome was originally scheduled to reopen for the 1915 season but didn’t due to the structure being destroyed for unknown reasons.
On February 12, 1916, the theater was leased from a citizen from St. Louis known as Mr. Frank P. Clements who tried to reopen it again, but failed. The airdome sat empty until the building was razed and demolished on September 16, 1916.
