In Coupar Angus, Perth & Kinross, it is thought the Picture Playhouse opened around 1920. It was a very basic wooden building, with a concrete screen.
According to the 1923 and 1928 Kinematograph Year Books, the Picture Playhouse was owned by Coupar and Prain. The resident manager was J. J. Coupar, there was one show nightly, with three on Saturday, and two changes of programme each week.
It is thought the Picture Playhouse closed in 1929, presumably when sound films arrived.
Despite this, the Kinematograph Year Books continued to record a Picture Playhouse in Hay Street. However, it is thought that these entries referred to a replacement cinema, based in a converted church (this has its own page on Cinema Treasures).
There is no obvious sign of the original Picture Playhouse building on Google Street View. So it is assumed this basic wooden building has long been demolished.
