The sound era theatres of Marietta, Oklahoma were quite regal with names including the Empress Theatre, the Queen Theatre, the Palace Theatre and the King Theatre. This King Theatre was owner Lamonte King who closed the Palace Theatre on Main Street on March 12, 1939 and opened the new King Theatre on March 16, 1939 with Loretta Young in “Kentucky”.
The King Theatre effectively closed following a six-day run of “Ben Hur” ending on June 28, 1961 (though did sponsor a free Christmas screening that December).
