Ed Crew had run the Empress Theatre for half of its 14 year existence and had figure out at least one thing: Waurika residents like westerns. So he opened a second movie theatre, the NuSho Theatre, to specialize in the genre. The NuSho launched on N. Main Street on June 22, 1926 with a full house.
In January of 1928, the town had an almost unfathomable number of movie theatres with three between the NuSho Theatre, the Rex Theatre, and the New Empress Theatre. The Empress Theatre would rule supreme as the NuSho Theatre and the Rex Theatre faded during the year. Neither the NuSho Theatre nor the Rex Theatre converted to sound.
