The Royal Theatre was the second tier theatre in downtown Waurika. Long-time Empress Theatre operator decided to open a second sound theatre on N. Main Street called the Royal Theatre. It opened to a full house on March 27, 1934. The Sircoco air handling could achieve temperature as much as 25 degrees lower than outside. In 1935, the Royal Theatre paused movies and hosted live events including wrestling.
The theatre was refreshed in 1938 and using one of the newer rejected sound systems from the Empress Theatre to improve the experience. It opened for weekends only with a new front. It closed for summers as the Sircoco must not have been up to the challenge of an Oklahoma summer.
The Royal Theatre closed during World War II re-opening November 2, 1945. The theatre completed a twenty-year lease closing in 1954.
