The Olentangy Park Theatre was located 56 feet above the Olentangy River’s edge in Olentangy Park, and amusements and recreation park. The theatre was built over 60 days in April & May 1899 and used 600,000 feet of lumber. It was 135 feet by 250 feet. It was enlarged and renovated for the 1903 season which resulted in a larger stage and ‘up-to-date lighting effects. By 1906, it seated 2,680 people and began showing motion pictures by 1910. One of its presentations on the screen was the famous Johnson-Jeffries fight.
The Olentangy Park Theatre continued to screen motion pictures and present theatrical productions until it closed in 1937. The structure burnt down in 1939, leaving only the two towers beside the entrance. It was completely destroyed by 1940 for the Olentangy Village apartment complex.
