A long-closed neighborhood theatre in southern Kansas City. It opened in 1924 as the South Troost Theatre. By 1937 it was operating as the Southtown Theatre. It closed by 1957 and was later converted to a bowling alley. The building burned down several years later and today all that remains is a parking lot.

This opened as the South Troost Theater on May 26th, 1923. Grand opening ad posted.
It was renamed Southtown on March 13th, 1932 and closed in 1957.
At least a third of Kansas City’s movie theaters shut down within 1957 through mid-1958 and as rivest266 mentions, the Southtown appears to have been one of the casualties, closing permanently on Monday, September 2, 1957 with Susan Hayward in I’LL CRY TOMORROW and Jimmy Stewart in STRATEGIC AIR COMMAND (Kansas City Star, pp. 6).
