John Post “J.P.” Masters opened here as the Elite Theatre with its first advertised show on October 19, 1911 for Crescent Amusement Company. A gold and mahogany interior impressed movie goers as well as flicker-free Motiograph projectors.

It became the Carpenter-Dent-Sublet Drug Store thereafter. But J.P. would continue operating theatres before retiring after nearly 50 years in the biz in 1960.
