Located in Knott End-on-Sea, Lancashire, across the River Wyre estuary from Fleetwood, north of Blackpool. The Casino Cinema was operating by March 1928 when it was screening Fritz Lang’s “Metropolis”. It had closed by 1934.
By 1937 it had reopened and renamed Verona Cinema, operated by James Brennan of Barrow-in-Furness. It was equipped with a Western Electric (WE) sound system. By 1945 it was operated by Cliff Miller. The proscenium was 24ft wide, the stage was 10ft deep and there were two dressing rooms. The cinema also boasted a cafe, which by 1953 was also doubling as a dance hall. The Verona Cinema was still open in September 1971. Following its closure, it was converted into a bingo club. When that closed it was converted into a squash court. In recent years it has been converted into a bar name The Squash.
