Built on the site of the Royal Theatre (it has its own page on Cinema Treasures), The State Theatre opened on May 1, 1930 with Olive Borden in “Hello Sister” and closed in 1949. It was owned by Scoville, Essick & Reif and Associated Theaters of Cleveland, which later became Modern Theaters.

The State closed permanently at the expiry of its 20 year leasing agreement with Maureen O'Hara in “A Woman’s Secret” on July 6, 1949. All of the employees were moved to the Galion Theatre which opened the next night.
