The Kokomo Mall Cinema I-II-III opened its doors by General Cinema on April 12, 1974 with the rerelease of Walt Disney’s “Alice In Wonderland” at Screen 1, Paul Newman’s “The Sting” at Screen 2, and Mel Brooks' “Blazing Saddles” at Screen 3, and was first managed by Wayne R. Stambaugh, who previously served as managers of drive-ins in Marion and Anderson, and cinemas across Indianapolis and Cincinnati.
On April 29, 1979, Screen 1 closed its doors for a full month and one week due to twinning while Screens 2 & 3 remain open. The theatre became a quad as the Kokomo Mall Cinema I-II-III-IV and reopened on June 8, 1979.
General Cinema operated the Kokomo Mall Cinemas until March 17, 1988, when the theater was sold to Kerasotes Theatres.
The theatre remained as a quad until being announced that an expansion and four more screens would be added to the 12,000-square-foot quad in September 1989. While films continued running as normal there, construction on the new screens began on September 30, 1989, and almost three months later, the former quad reopened as an 26,000-square-foot eight-screen theatre as the Kokomo Mall 8 on December 22, 1989.
Unfortunately, the Kokomo Mall 8 was on its last legs when an announcement was made in 2005 saying that a new Kerasotes Showplace 12 theatre would be built across the parking lot from the Kokomo Mall. And on the evening of May 11, 2006, the Kokomo Mall 8 closed its doors for the final time, just hours before the Showplace 12’s grand opening.
