Grotto Theatre

This theater appears on the 1914 Sanborn, in the western storefront of a large three story brick building that was constructed sometime after 1908, when the map shows a vacant lot.

It seems this was built by a fraternal order, and above the theatre were offices and a hall on the 3rd floor.

The theatre was not a success, and the 1922 map shows a grocery store there. Sometime in the 1960’s or 1970’s, the building was disfigured with a truly repellent façade, but this has now been removed, and the building is home to a craft brewery.
