The Capitol Theatre replaced the Empress Theatre and opened its doors by Famous Players on April 9, 1930 with Eddie Dowlin in “The Rainbow Man” along with Laurel and Hardy in “Brats” and a short entitled “Sweet Whatchamacallit”. It was first managed by M.P. Wetherell and later by Harry Creasey.
Famous Players operated the Capitol Theatre throughout its history, and the Capitol Theatre closed for the final time on August 8, 1960 with Walt Disney’s “The Shaggy Dog”.
