Odeon Drive-In

The Sundown Drive-In opened its gates on June 29, 1954 with Bud Abbott and Lou Costello in “Abbott and Costello Meet Captain Kidd” along with Bugs Bunny’s All-Star Cartoon Revue and a performance by the Kamloops High School band before showing on both grand opening and the day after. It was first managed by Sucha Singa.

The Sundown Drive-In was located on the eastern side of Trans-Canada Highway, a little over two miles east of the city limits, and has the installations of an RCA stereophonic sound system.

It was renamed Odeon Drive-In in 1969 following the theatre’s ownership with Odeon along with Kamloops’s other drive-in, the Skyway Drive-In (it has its own page on Cinema Treasures).

The Odeon Drive-In closed its gates for the final time in 1973, leaving the Skyway Drive-In as the only drive-in in Kamloops until closure in 1980.
