Opened on December 7, 1984 with Clint Eastwood in “City Heat” and Eddie Murphy in “Beverly Hills Cop” which were just two of its opening movies. It was operated by Plitt Southern Theatres. The Baymeadows 8 Theater became one of Cineplex Odeon’s initial offerings in the Jacksonville area when they took over Plitt Theatres in 1985. When it’s parent organization, Loews, folded it was picked up by Carmike who made some renovations and used it as a discount venue. Unable to compete with the stadium seating cinemas, the Baymeadows 8 Theater closed in the early-2000’s and is currently being used as a storage facility.

The Baymeadows 8 was opened by Plitt Southern Theatres on December 7th, 1984. Grand opening ad posted. When Cineplex Odeon took over Plitt in 1985, They had to keep the Plitt branding until 1988 as there was another theatre chain in the Houston, TX area called Cineplex. Now a storage facility.
