Cine Gold

Cine Gold was the first multiplex to open in the Transylvanian city of Sibiu: it was also Bucharest-based Cine Gold SRL’s first cinema.

It was, however, swiftly followed by the second multiplex to open in Sibiu: Cine Gold opened in November 2019, while the Cineplexx (see separate Cinema Treasures entry) opened in March 2020.

Cine Gold is on the second floor of the upmarket Promenada Mall, with decidedly high-end retail outlets.

Seating capacities are: Screen 1:267, Screen 2:191, Screen 3:213, Screen 4:208, Screen 5:75, Screen 6:151, Screen 7:90, Screen 8:146 and Screen 9:26.

Screen 9 is ‘badged’ as the “Events Room”. Unlike the other auditoriums, it is fitted out with extremely comfortable sofa seating, and it is presumably intended for private hire in addition to its use as a ninth screen.

Fortunately, when I visited, in May 2023, my screening, of “Hypnotic”, starring Ben Affleck and Alice Braga, happened to be in that auditorium. And very nice it is too!
