Century Cinema West Bank Widnes

Located in the West Bank district in the south of Widnes, Lancashire. The Century Picture Palace was opened in 1922 with 504-seats. It had a 16ft wide proscenium and a small stage. It was built and operated by the Gandy family. In the early-1930’s it was equipped with an Electrochord sound system. This was replaced in the late-1930’s by a British Talking Pictures (BTP) sound system and later by a GB Kalee sound system. The Century Picture Palace was closed in early-1959 and was demolished later that year and housing was built on the site.
