Encore 6

On May 2, 1986, the Schulman 5 cinemas marked the inauguration of the inaugural multiplex cinema in the Waco vicinity. Subsequently, Screen No. 6 debuted in 1994. Transitioning into a new era, the venue transformed into the Encore 6 in early-August 1997, reemerging as a budget-friendly cinema option. Its curtain call came on February 11, 2003 with closure.

Curious to know about the brief resurrection in 2005/2006. Were you able to find listings in the Tribune?

2005: April 10th - negative, August 5th - Negative, October 7th, same story. I have a feeling this never opened as Dogwood or if they did, placed no in the newspaper. Searching for “Dogwood Cinemas or Dogwood Theatres” returned no results. The only mention is its Cinematour page.

I’m going to say that this particular theater was never the Dogwood 6 and perhaps somebody provided us at Cinematour with incorrect information. Schulman Theatres owns a Dogwood 6 in Palestine, TX so I think that must be what’s causing the confusion. I’ve edited the Cinematour listing to exclude the name Dogwood 6. I recommend this get changed to be Encore 6, its last known name.

As far as the brief resurrection in 2005, we never had that info at Cinematour, I think the only place I’ve seen that is here in the description.

This venue’s 70mm presentations history is included in the recently-published article “70mm Presentations in Waco: A Chronology of 70mm Large Format Exhibition, 1962-Present”.
