The Allen Theatre was opened on June 27, 1918 when it was operated by the Allen’s Theaters Ltd. chain. In 1923 it was taken over by Famous Players and renamed Capitol Theatre. It was closed in December 1948.
It was converted into a grocery store.

The legendary Canadian showmen of Jule and Jay J. Allen opened their own Allen Theatre on June 27, 1918 by Allen’s Theaters Ltd., housing 519 seats and was built on the site of the Commercial Hotel, which the conversion was conducted by Mrs. Florence Sutherland and the contracting team of Martin Jex and Company. Famous Players bought the Capitol in 1923.
The Capitol Theatre closed in December 1948 when Premiere Theatres Canada opened their much-larger Park Theatre nearby and was converted into a grocery store operated by D.A. Bergin.
