Opened as the Irma Theatre in 1915. It was renamed U City Theatre in 1938, so named as it was short for the suburb it was located in. It was one of three theatres located in the U City loop area, the Tivoli Theatre and Varsity Theatre both located on Delmar just around the corner and down the street. The U City Theatre was one of the more plain theatres but a nice neighborhood theatre.

With the coming of television and the competition of the other theatres, the U City Theatre closed in January 1953. The Tivoli Theatre was later renamed U-City Cinema.

I don’t have the exact opening date, but theatre was in operation as early as 1921. At one time also had an airdome.

Theater closed in January 1953.

If this was orginally the Irma Theatre it opened in 1915 owned by Fred Robinson. He started out with a saloon, which he closed in 1915 and opened the Irma Theatre and Investment Co. in University City, MO.

Unless streetview is wrong, this should be demolished.
