Cathay Cineplex Causeway Point

The 10-screen Studio Cinemas Causeway Point opened for business in April 1999 by the Hong Kong based cinema chain as its largest outlet in Singapore. It was abruptly closed in August that year by the mall owners due to various arrears and the company entering receivership at that time.

The premises was then leased to Cathay Organisation as Cathay Cineplex Causeway Point, which opened in December 1999 after minor retrofitting including removing some front row seats. This marks Cathay’s return to the suburbs after the management of its previous suburban cinemas were taken over by Golden Village in January 1994.

In late-2001, three of the halls were converted into other uses, including a billiards hall and an expansion of the food court.
