The renaissance themed GV Grand was a joint venture between Golden Village and the developers of Great World City. Opened on 15th January 1999 with six screens and 1,564 seats, it marked the debut of Singapore’s first premium-priced hall, Gold Class, which is a luxurious 30 seater hall with reclining chairs and dine-in service. An open-air courtyard is situated beside the foyer, where gatherings such as movie premiers and corporate functions are held.
In 2003, Hall 1, which was then known as Megascreen, was converted into an IMAX theatre, mainly showing documentaries and occasionally blockbusters formatted in IMAX. It was reverted back to a regular hall sometime in 2006 due to high costs.
The cinema underwent its first revamp in September 2013 and reopened the following month with new seats and offerings. Hall 2 was converted into couples' only hall Gemini, and the rear of Hall 6 features ANZ Grand Seats, which are luxurious recliner seats exclusive to ANZ cardmembers.
A second revamp between February and August 2023 led to major changes in the cinema. Hall 6 was returned to the landlord and converted into other uses, while the Gemini Hall was converted into a second Gold Class hall with 48 seats. It was reopened on 27th August 2023 with a spanking new foyer and automated ticketing machines.
